S Sound
Articulation worksheets are learning materials primarily used by speech therapists to help children and adults with articulation disorders learn how to enunciate individual letter sounds, sound blends and words. They are an essential tool for improving receptive and expressive communication.
The /s/ sound requires the tongue to be raised high up and almost touching the alveolar ridge (the top of the roof of the mouth). This makes it difficult for many kids who struggle with this target sound to produce.
This packet contains ten worksheets for each sound (fitting two to a page to save printing) with clear pictures and black lines that make them a quick grab-and-go option. It also includes a place to record therapist-derived words making it easy to monitor progress if you send them home for homework.
S Blends
When children have articulation disorders, they often produce syllables and words incorrectly. This can result in omissions, deletions, substitutions and changes of letters or sounds in a word.
This articulation resource contains a variety of practice pictures for both initial and medial S blends with matching sentence completion activities. Also included are games and a data collection probe to monitor student progress.
Students will enjoy practicing their S articulation with these fall-themed cut and paste articulation worksheets. They can create a bulletin board with these colorful leaves or send them home to use for extra practice. This resource is appropriate for kindergarten and beyond.
S Medial
Articulation worksheets are learning materials primarily used by speech therapists to help children and adults who have articulation disorders practice individual letter sounds, blends and words. They help increase an individual’s phonological awareness by first addressing the underlying speech sound errors that impact receptive and expressive language.
Articulation therapy is a complex process and receptive and expressive language disorders are both important for optimal communication. Increasing an individual’s phonological awareness is the first step in improving articulation skills.
Here are some fun articulation games for the initial, medial and final position of the /s/ sound. These no prep hands-on activities are designed to get HIGH articulation trials!
S Final
Once students master the initial and medial S blends, they can often struggle with cluster reduction on final S sounds. These articulation worksheets, color by the code, task cards, flashcards and games will help you target this difficult sound in your articulation therapy sessions.
Working on final s sounds at the word level is essential for a successful speech sound disorder treatment program. Using minimal pairs and having students pronounce them side by side will help them recognize the difference in s sound production.
Using auditory bombardment is also a great way to target this difficult sound. Final s sounds can be practiced with songs, stories and even with this free deck of boom cards for /s/ articulation by GoldieTalks Speech.
